Colin Trautt rushed 22 times for 113 yards and a touchdown, and senior classmate Brennen Werner added three short touchdown runs as Northwestern closed out the regular season by shutting out Cameron 35-0 in Heart O’ North Conference football Friday, Nov. 6, in Maple.
Werner finished with seven carries for 38 yards, while Austin Schlies added six carries for 43 yards for Northwestern (5-1). Schlies led the defensive effort with eight tackles, including two quarterback sacks, Jace Nelson had a 43-yard interception return and Joshawa James had a fumble recovery.
The Tigers gained 283 yards compared to just 124 for Cameron (2-5).
Third-seeded Northwestern opens the Wisconsin Division 3 Sectional 1 playoffs at second-seeded St. Croix Central (6-1) at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in Hammond, Wisconsin. Fourth-seeded Somerset (3-3) is at top-seeded Ellsworth (6-0) in the other first-round matchup, with the winners advancing to play at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the highest remaining seed to close out the season.
“The kids were really focused and geared up to play after not having a game last week,” Tigers coach Jovin Kroll said. “They executed the game plan on both sides of the ball and really had a fun night. We look forward to playing as long as we can and cannot wait to fly around next week.”
