Superior built a 20-6 halftime lead and rode out a nervous finish to end its 2021 season with a victory on the field.

The Huskies forfeited the original matchup on Labor Day weekend due to a COVID-19 outbreak, but with both teams out of the Wisconsin playoff picture, they agreed to make the game up on the field Thursday, Oct. 21, at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

Carson Gotelaere ran for two touchdowns and threw for two touchdowns for the Spartans, who outgained the Huskies 343-276.

Gotelaere hit Tresean Sanigar with a 45-yard touchdown pass to even the game at 6 early in the second quarter. After a 19-yard scoring run from Courdin Nelson-Scaggs, Gotelaere connected with Alex Veilleux from 14 yards out just before halftime.

After the break, both teams exchanged touchdowns twice, with Gotelaere rumbling in from 5 and 1 yards.

The Huskies recovered an onside kick and took the ball down the field to get within a score inside the last two minutes, but a second onside kick attempt was snagged by the Spartans' hands team and the hosts ran out the clock.

Nelson-Scaggs led Superior's rushing attack with 87 yards on 11 carries. Veilleux caught three balls for 52 yards and Gotelaere finished 8-of-14 passing for 151 yards.

Traeton Goss caught three touchdown passes from Tyler Everson for the Huskies. Both teams finish the season with 1-8 records.
