Dylan Ackerman was 15-for-18 passing for 318 yards and five touchdowns to lead Newman Catholic to a 54-18 nonconference road victory in 8-player high school football Saturday over Northwood/Solon Springs.
Ackerman added 10 carries for 139 yards and two more scores as the senior quarterback had a hand in seven TDs for the Fighting Cardinals (2-0). Charlie McCarty caught 11 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns as Newman Catholic broke from a 14-12 lead after the first quarter with 33 points in the middle quarters.
Quarterback Syver Gulbrandson was 10-for-24 passing for 235 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Evergreens (1-2). His top target was senior Collin Krmpotich, who hauled in eight passes for 214 yards and three scores.
