Ashland had 12 hits and took advantage of five errors en route to a 15-6 victory over Northwood/Solon Springs Saturday, May 1, in Solon Springs.

Junior Syver Gulbrandsen had a hit, run, RBI and stolen base to lead Northwood/Solon Springs while freshmen Abe Ahlberg (H, R, RBI; LP: 4IP, 3H, 5R (1 ER), 4BB, 5K), Tanner Carlson (2B, R, SB) and Kaden Corlett (H, 2RBIs) were also productive.

“It was disappointing that we made so many mistakes defensively today,” Northwood/Solon Springs coach Nate Ahlberg said. “Ashland is a very good team all-around. We can’t afford to make five errors and give them 10 unearned runs.

“We struggled early to make contact with the velocity from the Ashland pitchers. That improved as the game went on and our hitters made adjustments.”

Northwood/Solon Springs (2-0) hosts Clear Lake Tuesday, May 4, in Minong, then is at Flambeau Thursday, May 6, and hosts Drummond Friday, May 7, in Minong.
