Northwood/Solon Springs wins playoff primer
Northwood/Solon Springs overcame a 2-1 deficit with a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to win 4-2 Thursday, June 10, in a nonconference game at Cameron.
“It was nice to win one from behind tonight,” coach Nate Ahlberg said. “We haven’t trailed in many games this year and I liked our fight over the last two innings. Kaden Corlett and Syver Gulbrandsen both had RBI singles in the final frames, and Tanner Carlson was great in relief.
“Tanner threw only 51 pitches to get the last 12 outs, allowing only three baserunners to get his first varsity win. It’s fantastic to have another pitcher I can trust to be effective heading into the playoffs next week.”
Northwood/Solon Springs will host Mellen in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regional semifinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, in Solon Springs. With a victory, NSS (16-4) would advance to the regional at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, in Minong.
