With Wessman Arena currently closed until 2021, the Spartan boys hockey team began its season practicing at Superior Ice Arena.
The Spartans are using their time on the ice to get ready for their first scheduled game Tuesday, Jan. 5, against the Hayward Hurricanes — the team that denied the Spartans a trip to the state tournament last season.

Jed Carlson joined the Superior Telegram in February 2001 as a photographer. He grew up in Willmar, Minnesota. He graduated from Ridgewater Community College in Willmar, then from Minnesota State Moorhead with a major in mass communications with an emphasis in photojournalism.
