Superior’s newest disc golf course is now open for business in the Superior Municipal Forest.
The nine-hole course was constructed in late summer and hosts its first tournament this weekend.
The Lake Superior Disc Golf Association worked with the city’s Parks & Recreation Commission over the course of several meetings to design and build the new course located in the area of the former archery range.
Plans to move and re-create the archery range in the Superior Municipal Forest were scrapped earlier this year when the Douglas County Fish and Game League notified the city it had plans to develop archery opportunities at its shooting range.
The archery range was removed due to a lack of support and maintenance, according to Linda Cadotte, parks, recreation and forestry director.
People can access the new disc golf course by taking North 42nd Street at Albany Avenue or from Billings Drive. Park in the gravel lot and look for the signs.
The course is open to everyone.
This weekend, the Lake Superior Disc Golf Association is hosting its first tournament at the new course.
The North Shore Doubles Finale, which runs 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, features two rounds of disc golf, multiple divisions and lots of prizes. The tournament is open to all ages and skill levels.
