Superior High School’s Malley O’Brien had a sizzling week for the Spartan soccer team with nine goals over the course of two games.

The junior scored five goals Monday in Superior’s 7-4 victory over Baldwin-Woodville and added four more goals Tuesday in a 7-0 win over Barron. For the season, O’Brien has 12 goals in four games played.

The Spartans improved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the Middle Border Conference with this week’s victories, yet the team is still waiting to play its home opener.

Superior’s soccer fields remained unplayable this week, but Spartan head coach Len Albrecht was hopeful the team would be able to host New Richmond at 4:30 p.m. May 2. The Spartans also have road games Monday at Ashland, Tuesday at Spooner and Thursday at Osceola.

“Tough week next week with games Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and our home opener on Friday,” Albrecht said.
