The highlight of a busy day for Northwestern junior CJ Thompson at the WIAA Division 2 state track and field meet was a fourth-place finish in the boys 300-meter hurdles on Friday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Thompson took fourth in the second heat, which was good for fourth overall, with a time of 40.73 seconds. Ashland junior Cody Lustig edged Thompson out for third in 40.01 while Lodi senior Lucas Heyroth won in 39.19 seconds.
Thompson finished eighth in the final of the 110 hurdles in 15.83 seconds after qualifying ninth. He finished sixth in the second heat in 15.99 seconds during the first round to advance.
Northwestern's 800 relay team finished fifth out of six teams in the first heat and 15th out of 16 teams overall with a time of 1:35.05. Thompson also ran that race along with teammates Bennett Nelson, Nick Makela and Xander Polkoski.
Solon Springs/Northwood senior Calin Lisson won a Division 3 boys state title in the 400 on Thursday.
