The Superior Parks and Recreation Commission approved a plan to improve efficiencies in reserving park and ballfield facilities.

The plan includes raising fees to cover the cost of software the public can use to make reservations for park pavilions and ballfields.

“It’ll be a great way for customers to go online and make reservations,” said Jodi Saylor, administrative assistant in the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.

The software will eliminate paperwork and mailings and allow reservations to be tracked in one location, Saylor said.

Currently, to find out what’s available, Saylor said people have to call the parks department. The software will allow residents to find out what’s available online and prevent duplication.

“Right now, we have three park forms that are mailed back and forth,” Saylor said. “So if someone makes a reservation, we fill the form out. We mail it to them. They fill out their portion of the form and mail it back to us, and we mail out a signed final copy.”
Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Linda Cadotte said the software could result in more people reserving park facilities for use.

“Maybe people don’t know they can rent the pickleball courts for a game, or they don’t know they can rent Stone Circle at Girl Scout Point,” Cadotte said.

Residents will pay $5 more to rent a pavilion or to reserve one of the city’s ballfields. Tournament and nonresident pavilion rental fees will increase by $25 and the cost for electricity at the sites will increase to $25 to cover the cost of the reservation software.

Cadotte said the subscription to the software can be re-evaluated after a year to see if it’s working for the community.

“I think this is great,” said Councilor Keith Kern, commission chairman. “This is getting us to where we need to be in terms of efficiency.”
