A female pileated woodpecker made an unexpected appearance in the garage of Charlie Bergsten on U.S. Highway 2 near Poplar Tuesday, Nov. 3.
“I’ve never had this happen before,” Bergsten laughed as he watched the huge woodpecker drill into the trim around one of his windows. Female pileated woodpeckers lack the red mustache mark that the males have.
The bird found its way out of the garage about 20 minutes after the people inside it left.
