The Northwestern Tigers softball team won its WIAA Division 2 playoff opener 12-1 in five innings over the Spooner Rails Thursday evening in Brule.
Shelby Schulz was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Tiana Arseneau pitched the final inning, allowing a hit with two strikeouts and a walk.
Schulz also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3.
Kelcee Janigo, Anna Morgan, Taylor Prior and Arseneau added two hits apiece and Betsy Hendrick, Sara Miller and Allie Larsen added a hit each.
Prior also had three RBIs, Janigo and Miller knocked in two runs each and Morgan, Schultz and Amber Eller had one RBI apiece.

The Tigers are back in action Tuesday at Ashland. The Oredockers advanced with an 8-0 win over Webster/Siren.
