The Houston Texans' Tyrod Taylor played a series and Davis Mills threw for 112 yards to lead visiting Houston to the 26-7 win over Green Bay Saturday night, Aug. 14, at Lambeau Field in their NFL preseason opener.
Ka'imi Fairbairn connected on all four of his field goal attempts for the Texans. Former first-round pick Jordan Love saw some of his most extensive action as a Packer, completing 12 of 17 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.
Houston running back Scottie Phillips rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown, and Darius Jackson ripped off a 25-yard scoring run for the Texans. Aaron Rodgers did not play and won't during the preseason.
On Rodgers’ wish list: reunion with Clay Matthews
Rodgers told the Green Bay front office that he wanted Randall Cobb back in a Packers uniform, and general manager Brian Gutekunst pulled off a deal with the Houston Texans to return the wide receiver to the team in July.
Now, Rodgers wants to see linebacker Clay Matthews back in Green Bay.

Cobb and Rodgers shared a photo of Matthews on their Instagram stories late Friday, with Rodgers adding the caption “BRING HIM BACK #.” Left tackle David Bakhtiari followed suit.
Matthews, 35, played in Green Bay from 2009-18, earning All-Pro honors in 2010 and being selected to six Pro Bowls. He was a key contributor on the 2010 team that won Super Bowl XLV, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25.
In 10 seasons with Green Bay, Matthews made 482 tackles (121 for loss) and had 83½ sacks, six interceptions, 15 forced fumbles and 41 passes defensed.
Matthews left in free agency following the 2018 season and signed a two-year, $9.25 million deal with the Los Angeles Rams, who released him on March 19, 2020. He sat out the season.
In 2019, Matthews had 37 tackles and eight sacks for the Rams.
Report: MRI clean on Love’s shoulder
An MRI Sunday on Love’s throwing shoulder came back clean, and he is unlikely to miss any time, ESPN reported.
The second-year signal-caller’s preseason debut Saturday night was cut short after he got “dinged” during a sack late in the second quarter, according to head coach Matt LaFleur.
Love, 22, was replaced by Kurt Benkert.

The Packers drafted Love in the first round in 2020 out of Utah State, but he did not see any action as a rookie last season. He is expected to be the backup this season to Rodgers, the three-time MVP.
