Abby Nelson, a freshman on the UW-Stevens Point track and field team, finished in fourth place in the pole vault at the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, Feb. 28, at UW-Oshkosh.
Nelson, a former Northwestern Tiger from Iron River, vaulted 11 feet, 9 inches. UW-Stout’s Heather Beecher won the event at 12-10.
As a team, the Pointer women finished in fourth place.
Nelson made a big splash in her collegiate debut by finishing first in the WIAC Tri with a vault of 11-8.50.
She tuned up for the WIAC event with a second-place finish (11-4.25) at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge. She also finished second this season in the Midwest Invitational (11-5.75) and the UW-Whitewater Invitational (11-3.50).
