The Minnesota Wilderness fell into a three-goal hole, rallied briefly but couldn't catch the St. Cloud Blizzard in a 5-3 loss on Friday at Northwoods Arena in Cloquet.
The Blizzard scored the game's first two goals, then tacked on two more in the second after Minnesota's Blake Holmes scored on an assist from Tyler Watkins late in the first.
The Wilderness' Mitch Allard scored at 4:45 of the third on an assist from Holmes, and Jacob Herter made it a one-goal game scoring unassisted at 17:41. But the Blizzard put home an empty net goal with four seconds left in the game.
The Blizzard and Wilderness wrap a home-and-home series at 7:10 p.m. Saturday in St. Cloud.
