University of Wisconsin-Superior goaltender Shanley Peters was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for women's hockey.
Peters, a senior from Gnadenthal, Manitoba, had a monster week in goal as the Yellowjackets split a two-game series at UW-Stevens Point.
"You can't say enough about the job that Shanley has done throughout her career here," said UWS coach Dan Laughlin of the one-time All-American. "She makes my job easy. I can coach with a lot of confidence, and the players on the team can go on the ice with a lot of confidence knowing that Shanley is back there."
Peters made 33 saves Friday night, but the Yellowjackets came up short, suffering their first defeat of the season with a 2-1 loss to the Pointers. Peters was remarkable again Saturday, and the offense followed suit as the Yellowjackets handed the Pointers their first loss of the year by a 3-1 score. For the week Peters had a 1.51 goals against average and a .952 save percentage.
On the year, Peters is 5-1-2 with a 1.20 goals against average, a .952 save percentage and one shutout. She has also generated some offense, being awarded a goal and an assist two weeks ago against UW-Eau Claire.

"She is the best goaltender in the conference, there is no doubt in my mind," Laughlin said. "She brings our team to a whole different level and there is no doubt in my mind that she is most deserving of this award."
The Yellowjackets return to action at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 when they host UW-River Falls.
