MAPLE-When the Gordon L. Nelson Sports Complex opened in 2008, the Hayward Hurricanes handed the Northwestern Tigers their first and only home loss of the season.
The Tigers didn't lose again to Hayward for the next five seasons, outscoring the Hurricanes 186-48 during that stretch.
On Friday the Hurricanes finally put an end to their Tiger struggles with a 28-7 victory over Northwestern in Maple.
Each team scored once in the first half, but Hayward dominated in the second with three touchdown drives. Northwestern, meanwhile, fumbled away the ball on two of its four possessions in the second half.
