Four members of the University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s basketball team received postseason recognition from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.

Senior Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland) earned first-team recognition; senior Allen Anderson (Brooklyn Park, Minnesota) was named to the second team; and freshman and former Superior Spartan Mason Ackley was an honorable mention and all-defensive team honoree.

Senior Joe Kramer (Elk River, Minnesota) was the Yellowjackets' representative on the UMAC Sportsmanship Team.

Milenkovic led UWS with 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He posted 11 double-doubles and reached the 1,000-point plateau with a career-high 27 points in a home win over Martin Luther on Feb. 15. He also finished third in the league in rebounding, fourth in scoring and field-goal percentage (51.7), sixth in minutes per game (31.3), 11th in steals per game (1.3), and 15th in assist per game (2.2).

Anderson started all 26 games, finishing second with 14.1 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game. He finished second in the league in free-throw percentage (85.9) and was seventh in assists per game (3.3). He was also eighth overall in assists-to-turnover ratio at 1.5.

Ackley averaged 10.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. He finished sixth in the UMAC in blocked shots per game (1.0) and 15th in steals (1.1). He scored a career-high 26 points in a win against North Central on Feb. 8.

‘JACKET JOTTINGS: With a 16-10 record, UWS tied for its most wins since the 2000-01 season. … With a 13-3 UMAC record, the Yellowjackets also advanced to the conference tournament for the first time since 2015-16.

Women’s hoops

UWS seniors Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minnesota) and Eva Reinertsen (Duluth) were named first-team picks, Marissa Ruiz (Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota) was honorable-mention, and senior Mackenzie Kmecik (Superior) represented UWS on the UMAC Sportsmanship Team.

Carpenter, also a member of the all-defensive team, started all 27 games, finishing second on the team with 12.9 points per game and tied for second in the UMAC with Reinertsen averaging 3.5 assists per game.

Reinertsen, a three-time all-UMAC performer, led the team in scoring and rebounding at 17.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, respectively.

Reinertsen posted 11 double-doubles this season and went over 1,000 career points in a game against Bethany Lutheran Dec. 14, finishing her career with 1,323.

Ruiz played 26 games, starting 24, as a senior and averaged 11.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. She finished sixth in the league in 3-pointers made per game (1.9) and 16th in assists (2.4).

Kmecik appeared in all 27 games, starting 11. She averaged 3.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game, coming on strong at down the stretch. She scored a career-best 23 points in the UMAC semifinals against Northwestern.

Men’s track

UWS senior CJ Pillath (Coleman, Wis.) was named UMAC Field Athlete of the Meet for the third time, and head coach Glen Drexler was named the coach of the year for the fourth time.

Women’s track

Yellowjackets named all-conference included senior Mathea Brink (Rochester, Minnesota), who won the 5,000-meter run, and the 4x200-meter relay team of freshman Alexxa DeQuevedo (Silver Bay), sophomore Via Prince (Spokane Valley, Wash.), freshman Kassie Korhonen (Foley, Minnesota) and senior LeAnn Torgerson (Two Harbors), who won the event in 1:55.35.

Freshman Rachel Hotakainen (Lino Lakes, Minnesota) represented UWS on the UMAC Sportsmanship Team.

Baseball

Senior right-hander Tommy Lentz was named the UMAC Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Brandon Rolf is the UMAC Player of the Week.

Lentz (Andover, Minnesota) helped the Yellowjackets to their first win of the season Tuesday, Feb. 25, against Carroll. He scattered three and one earned run over four innings for his first victory in his third career start. Lentz stuck out five and walked four.

Rolf (Stillwater, Minnesota) batted .667 (4-for-6) in a season-opening doubleheader split with Carroll at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. He had two doubles, walked twice, scored four runs and stole one base in the two games.

He went 3-for-3 with a double, two walks and a steal in the Yellowjackets' 10-7 victory in game two.

UWS (1-1) next travels to Topeka, Kan., for a four-game series against Grinnell Saturday and Sunday, March 7-8. Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon and Sunday's is slated for 11 a.m., at Bettis Family Sports Complex.
