The Superior High School goys golf team finished in fourth place at the Cloquet Invitational Monday at the Cloquet Country Club.
Superior's Nolan Holcombe shared meet medalist honors with Andrew Krasaway of Hermantown. The two carded rounds of 76.
"Nolan got off to a quick start with a birdie at the first hole and a great par save from the trees at the second," SHS JV coach Andy Heytens said. "He played very solid on the front nine, carding a 38."
Similar to the front nine, Holcombe got off to a good start on the back with a birdie on the difficult par-4 12th hole to move to one under on the back and one over for the day.
"Nolan played smart coming in, keeping his ball in play and getting up and down for par numerous times," Heytens said. "I was proud of the way he was able to keep his composure throughout the back nine. He made a lot of difficult par putts to keep his round going.

"He had only 28 putts on the day, one of the key reasons that he was able to score as well as he did."
Other Spartan scores were: Paxton Paine, 90; Luke Gall, 93; Matthew Hinaus, 96; Mason Stien, 97; and Max Dahl, 111.
"Nolan was the only varsity player for Superior at this meet," Heytens said. "The other 11 players are part of the junior varsity team, and although they are young and inexperienced, I thought they played well and never gave up on their round."
Junior varsity scores for Superior were: Josh Mentzel, 94; Ryan Conner, 101; Adam Strobel, 113; Erik Rybak, 117; Jeb Kimmes, 129; and Andrew Erickson, 143.
The Spartans were back in action Tuesday with a Lake Superior Conference meet at Lester Park Golf Course. Superior will also golf at Virginia at 9 a.m. Friday.
