College women’s hockey: Jorde, Whalen lead Yellowjackets to shutout victory over Saints

Senior forward’s second-period goal stands as the game-winner in nonconference action.

DULUTH — Senior forward Tessa Jorde’s shorthanded unassisted goal at 15:23 into the second period lifted Wisconsin-Superior to the 1-0 nonconference victory over St. Scholastica in college women’s hockey Tuesday, Jan. 11, before at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Senior goalie McKenzie Whalen had the 24-save shutout for UWS (6-5-1) while senior Lori Huseby of Babbitt had 43 saves for CSS (6-5-1).

CSS was originally scheduled to play Wisconsin-River Falls Tuesday but that game was postponed to Jan. 26; UWS, meanwhile, was scheduled to play at Hamline, but that, too, was postponed.

The Saints return to MIAC action at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, against St. Mary’s at Mars Lakeview Arena while the Yellowjackets host fourth-ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, in a WIAC contest.
