Eau Claire North’s Brayton Thillman and Noah Bestul each scored two goals as the Huskies spoiled Superior’s boys hockey season debut with a 7-1 victory Tuesday at Wessman Arena.
Ethan Welch scored the Spartans’ lone goal, just 19 seconds into the first period, before Eau Claire North tallied the final seven goals.
Superior goaltenders Jamin Durfee and Trevor Soderlund combined for 35 saves.
Hayward-Ashland 4, Superior 2
Alex Pieterek scored twice and the host Hurricanes handed the Spartans defeat in their season opener.
Erika Trentor and Brooklyn Burger scored goals for Superior.
Superior 60, South Shore 59
The Spartans edged the visiting Cardinals in back-and-forth nonconference action in Superior’s season opener.
The game came right down to the end. After the Superior missed a free throw, the Cardinals came down but forced a bad shot. The Spartans rebounded and cleared the basketball for the win.
Savannah Leopold led Superior with 22 points and Emma Raye tacked on 16.
Chloe Sipsas paced South Shore (5-1) with 26 points.
Northwestern 56, Hayward 37
Tieryn Plasch scored 22 points and Allison Luoma added 13 to lead the Tigers to the Heart O’North Conference win in Maple.
The Tigers led 30-15 at halftime en route to improving to 8-2 on the season.
