The University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s hockey team wrapped up its regular season with a 1-0 loss to UW-Stout on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Wessman Arena.
Despite the loss, the Yellowjackets (14-8-3, 7-8 WIAC) finish as the No. 3 seed in the WIAC playoffs and will host Northland in a two-game series Friday, Feb. 21, and Saturday, Feb. 22. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m.
UWS clinched its home-ice advantage with a 3-2 win over Stout on Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Fanetti Community Center in Menomonie.
Superior’s Troy York scored the first of his two goals at 9:33 of the first period on assists from Liam Blais and Coltyn Bates.
After Stout's Adam Kresl tied the game in the second period, York scored again on an assist from Chad Lopez at 13:14 of the second. Stout's Kobe Keller made it 2-2 with a goal early in the third.
Jonny Pace scored the game-winner with 5:03 remaining in the third period.
Stout’s Logan Nelson scored the only goal Saturday at 3:41 of the first period.
UWS goalie Nick Althaus had 31 saves Thursday and 29 Saturday.

UWS swept UW-Stevens Point with a couple of OT wins, 1-0 on Friday, Feb. 14, and 3-2 on Saturday, Feb. 15. Both games were played at Ice Hawks Arena in Stevens Point.
Megan Dulong scored unassisted 3:57 into overtime on Friday, and Molly Shelton’s game-winner came while the Yellowjackets were skating short-handed at 1:52 into OT.
Both winning goals were scored on Superior’s first shots on goal in OT..
McKenzie Whalen finished with 28 saves for UWS, and Olivia Schultz stopped 39 shots for the Pointers (7-11-6, 1-8-3).
On Saturday, UWS (15-6-1, 5-5 WIAC) trailed by a goal when CC Hayes scored on an assist from Shelton at 16:40 of the second.
Martinson scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 3:21 of the third period but the Pointers tied the game 2-2 about three minutes later.
UWS goalie McKenzie Whalen made 32 shots.
The Yellowjackets host Gustavus Adolphus at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, then wrap up the regular season with games at Northland on Friday, Feb. 21, and Saturday, Feb. 22.
