The University of Wisconsin-Superior basketball teams went a combined 3-1 during recent action, while the men’s hockey team went 0-1-1.

Women’s hoops

The Yellowjackets won its 20th game for the fourth consecutive season with wins of 84-47 over St. Scholastica on Thursday, Jan. 31, at Mertz Mortorelli Gym, and 71-47 at Crown College on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Marissa Ruiz and Eva Reinertsen each scored 12 points for UWS. Sydney Franks added 11 points and former Superior Spartan Mackenzie Kmecik scored a season-high 10 points.

Reinertsen (17 points), Carpenter (15) and Hannah Norlin (10) led UWS past St. Scholastica.

The Yellowjackets (20-2 overall, 12-1 UMAC) — who are tied for first with Bethany Lutheran with three regular-season games remaining — play at Northwestern at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, and host Bethany Lutheran at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.

Men's hoops

Brandon Newman scored 21 points in just 23 minutes as St. Scholastica rolled to an 86-52 UMAC victory over UWS on Thursday, Jan. 31.

Quinn Fischer and Collin Anderson chipped in 15 points apiece for St. Scholastica (11-9, 8-4 UMAC), while Mac Reykdal had 15 points to lead UWS.

Timothy Wedel poured in 25 points, Josh Volness scored 19 and Gunnar Ledin tacked on 17 in Crown College's 94-79 UMAC victory over UWS on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Montroy Scott led the Yellowjackets (6-16, 4-9) with 17 points, while Carter Brown had 16 and Reykdal added 15.

Men’s hockey

UWS skated to a 1-1 tie with UW-River Falls on Friday, Feb. 1, at Wessman Arena, then lost 4-1 at undefeated UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Will Blake gave UWS the lead over UWRF 8:09 into the third period Friday, but the Falcons tied it up five minutes later on the power play.

David Kaplan scored Superior’s goal at Stevens Point and A.J. Smith finished with 34 saves.

Connor Ryckman at 19 saves for the Pointers.

UWS (7-13-2, 1-3-2 WIAC) wraps up the regular season by playing at UW-River Falls on Thursday, Feb. 7, and hosting UW-Eau Claire on Friday, Feb. 8. Both games begin at 7 p.m.

Pillath honored again

C.J. Pillath has been named UMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for a third consecutive week.

Pillath, a senior from Coleman, Wis., won the weight throw at UW-Stout’s Warren Bowlus Invitational on Jan. 26.

Pillath remains the UMAC leader in the weight throw and shot put through three meets this season.
