SPARTAN ROUND-UP: Season ends for girls hockey team

The season came to an end for the Superior High School girls hockey team with an 8-1 loss to the St. Croix Valley Fusion in a WIAA playoff game Thursday night in River Falls.

Addie Young scored an unassisted goal and Emma Fornengo made 30 saves for the Spartans, who finish with a record of 6-18.

Boys basketball

The Spartans lost 65-51 at Eau Claire Memorial Friday night.

Xavier Patterson led Superior with 15 points. Kaleb Zentkowski added 13 points and Ben Rhodes had 11.

Caden Boser led the Old Abes with 18 points.

Superior wraps up the regular season at Ashland at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

SPARTAN SPIN: SHS is the No. 13 seed for the WIAA playoffs and will play at No. 4 Eau Claire North at 7 p.m. on March 2.

Boys golf

Jason Kalin has been named as the new SHS head boys golf coach.

Kalin has been the head coach for boys and girls golf in the past and is also currently the head boys hockey coach.

Girls basketball

Superior tuned up for the WIAA playoffs with a 63-27 win over the Duluth Denfeld Hunters Monday night in the SHS gym.

The Spartans will take a record of 10-12 into their Division 1 regional game at Appleton East at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

SHS celebrated Senior Night Monday, honoring players Sophie Kintop and Lexi Jensen and team manager Melissa Harty.
