Hermantown powers past Superior
Hermantown scored three goals on the power play and two more while skating short-handed in its 5-2 win over the Superior High School boys hockey team Monday night in Hermantown.
The Hawks’ three power-play goals came during a five-minute major penalty Superior took just 1:37 into the game. Hermantown’s second goal came with two Spartans in the penalty box.
The Spartans turned things around in the second period when they outshot the Hawks 14-3 and got on the scoreboard when Gunnar Hansen stole the puck at neutral ice and scored on Cole Manahan.
Tyler Watkins completed his hat trick for Hermantown with two short-handed goals in the third period. The first shorty came off a face off in Hermantown’s defensive end.
Grant Sorensen also scored for the Spartans, who are 0-5-1 in their last six games.
Caden Welch stopped 22 shots for Superior and Manahan had 30 saves for Hermantown.
Superior (12-9-2) wraps up its regular season by hosting Eau Claire Memorial at 7 p.m. Saturday. The game will be carried live on WNXR 107.3 FM
