Spartan girls win at Eveleth-Gilbert

Snowy weather didn’t stop the Superior High School girls hockey team from making the trek to the Iron Range Thursday night for its scheduled game with Eveleth-Gilbert.

While most sporting events were canceled in the Twin Ports, the Spartans and Golden Bears got their game in and Superior returned home with a 3-1 victory.

The Spartans scored a goal in each period. Rose Ion scored on a power play in the first period; Isabel Franta scored with help from Jillian Reuille; and Destiny Holmes scored unassisted in the third period.

Kylie Baranzelli scored for the Bears and Rachel Woods had 22 saves.

Katrina Casper had 17 saves for Superior, which improves to 4-10.

Superior plays Northland Pines at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Eagle River Sports Arena then plays at Moose Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
