The University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s golf team won its second straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship behind a medalist performance from Ryan Peterson Saturday, Oct. 5, at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minn.
The Yellowjackets carded a final round of 303 to finish with a 54-hole score of 910, 34 strokes better than runner-up St. Scholastica.
Peterson finished with his third-consecutive round of 72 for a total score of 216, four shots ahead of his teammate Joey Cummings, who finished in second place.
UWS’s Tyler Smith finished in fifth place at 233. Sam Albrecht tied for eighth place at 243; and Zac Joki finished 11th at 244.
Eric Watson scored in the 12th minute of overtime to give UWS a 2-1 UMAC victory over Martin Luther Saturday, Oct. 5, in New Ulm, Minn.
The Yellowjackets (7-2-2 overall, 3-0 UMAC) had a 20-3 shots-on-goal advantage but had a hard time beating Knights goalkeeper Josh Higgins, who made 18 saves.
Miguel Ocampo scored the other goal for UWS, which hosts North Central at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Minnesota-Morris defeated UWS 25-16, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22 in UMAC action.
Tori Everson pounded out 20 kills for the Cougars (8--10), who are first in the UMAC at 2-0.
Cami Sletta led UWS (8-12, 2-1) with 16 kills.
The Yellowjackets play at Northland at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, and then at the UW-Oshkosh tournament Oct. 18-19.
UWS freshman Maddie Friedman shot 18-over-par 90 to climb into the top 10 on the final day of the UMAC championships Saturday, Oct. 5, at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minn.
Friedman's round helped UWS finish in a tie for fourth place with Bethany Lutheran at 346-over-par 1,210. Friedman finished ninth overall at 69-over 285.
Alayna Tulip finished 11th with 289; Sarah Wahlquist was 19th at 307; Shalese Snowdon was 27th at 332; and Grace Rundquist was 30th at 351.
St. Scholastica (1,057) won the team title by 127 strokes over Northwestern.
