Gardenhire says Morneau doing 'really well'

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire says slugger Justin Morneau is "doing really well" as he continues to recover from a concussion that ended his season in July.

Gardenhire gave the Morneau update after accepting the AL Manager of the Year award on Wednesday. He says Morneau plans to start working out soon at his offseason home in Arizona.

Morneau was injured on July 7 while sliding into second base in Toronto. What was initially believed to be a minor injury ended up keeping him out for the remainder of the season and Minnesota's first-round playoff loss to the Yankees.

Gardenhire says he has no doubt that the former AL MVP will return to the field next season.
