Senior running back Colin Trautt rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns, and Northwestern got downight defensive in a 28-0 shutout of Spooner Friday night, Oct. 23, in high school football in Maple.
Both teams are now 4-1 in the Heart O’ North Conference after the Tigers handed the Rails their first loss of the season.
Northwestern, which had 240 yards of offense and turned the ball over three times, held Spooner to just 36 yards while forcing four turnovers.
Tanner Kaufman, Titus Graden and Austin Schlies had fumble recoveries and Jase Nelson had an interception to lead the Tigers’ defensive effort.
Northwestern is at Barron (2-3) next week while Spooner has another key HON game when the Rails host Cumberland (5-0).
“We’re proud of the kids; they rallied for each other and played a great game defensively,” Tigers coach Jovin Kroll said. “I feel like the first half was our best half of football this year. We controlled the line of scrimmage.”
