The Spartans (10-2) are in the midst of a playoff run that has them one game from a state championship game.
After playoff wins over Marshfield, Pulaski and Kaukauna, Superior plays Brookfield East in a WIAA Division 2 semifinal game at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Merrill. The winner will play in Madison on Nov. 22.
Leading the way for the Spartans has been senior quarterback Jarrett Gronski, who has been named the Big Rivers Conference Offensive Player of the Year, first-team all-conference at quarterback, and selected to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Region Team.
Joining Gronski as a BRC first-team selection and on the WFCA team is Spartan offensive lineman Luke Persons, a 6-foot-2, 257-pound senior.
“Luke is a leader on the line and he deserves everything he’s gotten,” Gronski said. “He’s the smartest dude I know, one of the hardest workers on our team, just a born leader.”

Other Spartans honored were Brady Herbst, second-team receiver and defensive line; Carter Fonger, second-team running back; Will Schorr, second-team defensive back; and Caden Stone and Cody Kurki, second-team linebackers.
Spartans named honorable mention include Quinlan Dahl, offensive line; PJ Kerr, linebacker; Stone, running back; Donavynne Brown, defensive line; and Brennan Morrissey, running back/wide receiver.
“I can’t say I that was expecting it (the award), but I thought I performed well this season and I’m very honored,” Persons said. “It’s fun blocking for Gronski and the other guys because there’s so much raw talent back there and speed. You know if you do your job they’re going to do their part and really move the ball. It’s exciting to watch.”
