The Superior High School football team had its homecoming spoiled with a 40-16 loss to the River Falls Wildcats on Friday, Oct. 5, at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

Seth Kohel rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns for the Wildcats, who improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the Big Rivers Conference.

Kohel’s TD runs covered 30, 29 and 31 yards, while Logan Graetz threw a pair of TD passes to Jared Creen and Michael Krueger scored from 14 yards out.

Jarrett Gronski and Spencer Gudowski rushed for touchdowns for Superior (4-4, 2-4).

River Falls took an 8-0 lead on its third drive of the game.

The Wildcats overcame Chase Summerfield's second quarterback sack of the game with gains of 14 and 20 yards before Graetz threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Creen. Graetz also connected with Creen on the two-point conversion in the final minute of the first quarter.

The Spartans moved the ball to the River Falls' 23-yard line on their next possession before throwing an incomplete pass in the end zone on fourth down.

The Wildcats followed with a five-play 77-yard drive that ended with Kohel's 30-yard TD run. Koehl also ran in for two points, making the score 16-0 with 5:36 left in the half.

Creen’s second TD reception and Kohel’s 29-yard run gave River Falls a 28-0 lead after three quarters.

It went to 34-0 on Kohel’s third TD (31 yards) early in the fourth quarter.

Gronski scored from 10 yards out, and scored on the two-point run, with 7:34 remaining.

Krueger scored from 14 yards out for River Falls and Gudowski’s 4-yard score came with 47 seconds remaining.

Summerfield led the Spartans with 11 tackles, including four solo tackles, two sacks and three tackles for losses.

Superior wraps up the regular season by hosting Rice Lake at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12.
