The Solon Springs boys basketball team improved to 18-1 overall and 13-1 in the Indianhead Conference with a 61-36 victory over Drummond Friday.

Ryan Anderson led the Eagles in scoring for the second straight game. The senior followed Tuesday’s 21-point performance against Butternut with 22 points against Drummond.

Also for the Eagles, Adam Vandenberghe had 15 points and eight assists, Jens Gehl had 11 points and Caleb Hedberg grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Solon Springs led all the way, using strong defense to gain a 31-18 edge at the half. It was much the same the second half as the Eagles dominated in all facets.

Elliot Hough led Drummond with eight points. 

The Eagles, who are tied with Washburn for first place in the IC, close out the regular season with three home games. They host Birchwood in a nonconference game at 7:15 p.m. today, then play Hurley at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Mercer at 5 p.m. Saturday.

With wins over Hurley and Mercer Solon Springs would clinch its first IC basketball championship in school history.

Girls basketball

The Solon Springs girls basketball team fell to Hurley 50-39 Thursday night in Solon Springs.

Morgan Anderson led the Eagles with 13 points, followed by Phoenix Thomas with nine.

The Eagles, 8-11 overall and 7-7 in the Indianhead Conference, played at Drummond Monday. They host Birchwood at 5:45 p.m. today to end the regular season.

Solon Springs is the No. 7 seed for the WIAA playoffs and will host No. 10 Shell Lake at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
