All snowmobile and winter all-terrain vehicle trails managed by the Douglas County Forestry Department officially close for the season at 8 a.m. Monday, March 16.
The closure is necessary because of warming weather and deteriorating trail conditions, according to Clint Meyer, the county’s Parks and Recreation supervisor.
In addition, all year-round recreational trails will close temporarily with the exception of the Gandy Dancer Trail from the state to Patzau; Saunders Grade from the state line to Schallameir Road parking lot; and the Wild Rivers Trail from the county line to 500 feet north of County Highway Y and from the North Trailhead parking lot at County Highway A to Harroun Road.
The City of Superior also closed the Crosstown Trail and the road to McClure’s Landing on Monday, March 9 for the season.
