Deer quota deliberations for Douglas County will take place from a distance this year. The in-person Douglas County Deer Advisory Council meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. April 9 has been canceled. Instead, members will hold a conference call at that same time to discuss 2020 preliminary antlerless quota recommendations.

Members of the public can listen in, but not offer input. Public comment will be taken through a Department of Natural Resources online survey April 16-28.

Wildlife Biologist Greg Kessler has provided a 24-minute recap of the 2019 season results that can be viewed prior to the call. Visit the CDAC website, https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/hunt/cdac.html and click on the watch button in the red-lined box near the top. That will take visitors to a list of county presentations; search for Douglas.

People interested in listening to the council’s discussion can call 866-244-1129, passcode 7437-200# on April 9. The conference call begins at 6 p.m., but people are asked to join 10 minutes early.

Following the discussion, the council will make its preliminary quota recommendations.

From April 16-28, members of the public can offer input on the recommendations through the same website. They will be recapped and final recommendations approved when the CDAC meets at 5:30 p.m. May 7 at Superior Public Library.
