Tiger boys tie for first, girls second at HON CC meet

The Northwestern High School boys cross-country team tied first place at the Heart O’ North Conference Meet Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Ladysmith Middle School.

The Tigers and Bloomer tied for first with 44 points each. Barron was a distance third with 73 points.

The Northwestern girls finished in second place with 59 points. Hayward won the team title with 33 points.

Bloomer’s Cole Michaelsen won the boys race in 18 minutes, 38.6 seconds. The Tigers were led by Kieran Johnson, who finished fourth in 19:40.1.

Lana Blumer of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser won the girls race in 23:10.4.

The Tigers had two girls finish in the top five. Abby Nelson was third in 23:41, and Autumn Askim finished fifth in 23:49.9.

Up next for the Tigers is the WIAA Division 2 Sectional meet at St. Croix Central on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The first two teams and first five individuals who are not members of a qualifying team will advance to the WIAA state meet on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
