Yellowjackets report: UWS men's hockey ends losing streak vs. Marian

Wisconsin-Superior ended a nine-game men's hockey winless streak against Marian on Tuesday, Nov. 22 by knocking off the Sabers 3-1 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

UWS scored once in each period and got a 39-save performance from senior goaltender Myles Hektor.

After a Marian penalty off the opening faceoff, the Yellowjackets took the lead on the ensuing power play as Reed Stark cleaned up a rebound at 1:54. Charles Martin made it 2-0 in the second period.

Marian spoiled the shutout with 7:21 remaining but C.J. Walker scored to cap the victory.

UWS (5-3-0), which hasn't beaten the Sabres since 2009, will face Northland on Friday in Superior.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY

Bennies blank UWS

Two St. Benedict goaltenders combined on a 14-save shutout while their teammates scored six times in front of them on Tuesday night in St. Cloud.

Corrinne Brown had two goals and an assist in the 6-0 Bennies victory, while Aurora Opsahl (Hermantown) had two assists.

Molly Black made 32 saves for UWS (4-4). The Yellowjackets are idle for two weeks before a home game on Dec. 6 vs. St. Scholastica.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Stout sticks it to Superior

Wisconsin-Superior couldn't find a hot shooter on Tuesday in a 73-44 loss at Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin.

UWS didn't have a scorer in double figures, didn't have a player with more than three made field goals and went 3-for-17 from 3-point range.

Stout pulled away in the second quarter, going on a 18-4 run to lead by 18 with 4:55 left in the half.

Raegan Sorensen scored 20 points off the bench on 7-of-11 shooting to lead Stout (3-1). For UWS, Kaelyn Christian nine points, while Mady Sanders and Katy Dobson scored seven apiece.

UWS (2-2) will play this weekend at the UW-La Crosse Thanksgiving Classic, starting with a 3 p.m. Friday game against the hosts.
