Yellowjackets report: Denfeld’s Hill scores late goal on solid day for UWS sports
’Jackets sweep in women’s and men’s soccer and win in volleyball.
MANKATO, Minn. — Freshman Kamryn Hill (Duluth Denfeld) scored at 83 minutes, 51 seconds, lifting Wisconsin-Superior to a 3-2 victory over Bethany Lutheran Friday, Sept. 23, in UMAC women’s soccer at Scheels Field.
Nya Wilson and Mya Holmquist staked UWS to the early 2-0 lead before Bethany Lutheran’s Elena Luján Rubio scored just before the half to cut the deficit to 2-1 at the break.
The Yellowjackets almost had victory in hand before Mia Saulter scored at 81:09 after a long Vikings’ free kick bounced into the penalty area, setting up Saulter for the tying goal and setting the stage for Hill’s heroics.
Hill scored with just 6:09 remaining after getting a cross from Holmquist, Holmquist's second assist of the game, and then firing a low shot past Bethany Lutheran goalkeeper Brooke Wolanin, who had seven saves for the Vikings (2-3-1 overall, 1-1 UMAC).
Jenna Lang had five saves for the Yellowjackets (2-3-2, 2-0).
UWS continues UMAC play at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Martin Luther in New Ulm, Minnesota.
Perry’s goals help UWS top Bethany Lutheran
Senior Blake Perry scored two goals and sophomore Zach Tiemeyer tallied the game-winner in the 42nd minute as Wisconsin-Superior erased an early deficit to down Bethany Lutheran 4-2 in UMAC men’s soccer at Scheels Field.
Aaron Shartin-Folkert also scored for UWS and Alex Paredes had three saves for the Yellowjackets (3-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 UMAC).
Antonio Lima and Bryan Jaimes scored goals and Francisco Vilarinho had four saves for the Vikings (3-2-2, 1-1).
UWS continues UMAC play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Martin Luther.
Pryd, ’Jackets overcome slow start to top Knights
Alexie Pryd had 21 kills and 10 digs to lead host Wisconsin-Superior to a 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-17) victory over Martin Luther in UMAC volleyball action before 53 at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
Maiana Stark added eight kills, Ella Kapus notched three blocks, Colleen Claude and Lizzy Schmidt had 19 and 17 set assists, respectively, and Jenna Anderson led the defense with 16 digs for UWS (6-7 overall, 2-0 UMAC).
Hannah Willems had 11 kills and Lauren Paulsen added 10 kills and 13 digs to lead the Knights (4-10, 0-2).
The Yellowjackets stay home to play Bethany Lutheran in another UMAC contest at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.
