Wisconsin-Superior goaltender earned her second career collegiate shutout, on 22 saves, as the Yellowjackets shut out Northland 2-0 on Friday, Nov. 18 at Wessman Arena.

The sophomore from Devils Lake, North Dakota, did the most work in the second period with 10 saves, but the hosts had a good handle on play throughout, outshooting the Lumberjills in all three periods and finishing with an overall advantage of 37-22.

UWS took the lead early, as Gaby Andreacchi notched her first goal of the season just 4:24 into the game. The Yellowjackets nursed a one-goal lead into the third period, then doubled it when Anna Scherling scored her first of the season 1:15 after the intermission.

That proved to be enough for UWS to even its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record to 1-1 and go to 4-2 overall.

Yellowjackets shut out UWRF

Dylan Meilun had a big night on the road for Wisconsin-Superior, stopping all 36 shots he faced in a 3-0 UWS win on the first night of WIAC play, at Wisconsin-River Falls on Friday night.

Meilun, a freshman from Morden, Manitoba, already has one shutout in his five-game collegiate resume from Nov. 11 at Bethel.

The Yellowjackets got to work supporting him early on, with Colton Friesen opening the scoring just 2:43 in. Friesen added an assist on UWS's second goal of the period, from Collin Pederson at 12:01. A third goal came late in the frame, with Zach Bannister scoring at 17:23. That turned out to complete the scoresheet for the night.

Dean Buchholz made six saves for the Falcons before yielding to Dysen Skinner, who stopped 19 shots.

UWS (3-2, 1-0 WIAC) will host Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
