SUPERIOR — Micah Filer had 28 points and eight rebounds to power North Central to a 70-56 victory over Wisconsin-Superior in UMAC men’s basketball Friday, Feb. 11, before 100 at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.
Justin Castro added 13 points for the Rams (4-16 overall, 1-8 UMAC).
Josef Fahrenholtz had 18 points and nine rebounds while Xavier Patterson chipped in 13 points for UWS (7-12, 4-5), which was outshot 51% to 39%.
The Yellowjackets host Northwestern in UMAC action at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Rams stave off Yellowjackets
Neither team scored a point in the final two minutes as North Central held on for a 47-44 victory over Wisconsin-Superior in UMAC women’s basketball before 60 at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.

Emily DiGiorgio had 20 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks to lead the Rams (19-3 overall, 8-3 UMAC), who trailed 25-24 before going on a 14-9 run in the third quarter to take the lead going into the fourth.
Elise Besonen was the lone UWS player to score in double figures with 14 points for the Yellowjackets (5-15, 4-7), who had 22 turnovers compared to 15 for North Central.
Neither team shot well, with UWS shooting 34% compared to 31% for the Rams.
The Yellowjackets host Northwestern in UMAC action at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, as part of Senior Day at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
Balanced ’Jackets skate past Pointers
Jamie Davison, Jenna Byfuglien, Gaby Andreacchi and Cora Coz scored goals to lead Wisconsin-Superior to a 4-2 victory over Wisconsin-Stevens Point in WIAC women’s hockey before 65 at Wessman Arena in Superior.
McKenzie Whalen had 28 saves for the Yellowackets (7-10-1 overall, 2-3 WIAC) while Courtney Leising had two goals and Olivia Schultz had 30 saves for the Pointers (10-13, 4-6).
The same teams rematch at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Wessman Arena.
MEN’S HOCKEY
Nelson, Blue Devils too much for UWS
Wisconsin-Superior struck first on a goal by Coltyn Bates but Wisconsin-Stout scored five in a row en route to a 6-4 victory in WIAC men’s hockey before 156 at Wessman Arena.

Zack Cloutier had 32 saves for the Blue Devils (8-16 overall, 6-8 WIAC).
Gavin Rasmussen scored two goals for UWS and Landon Pavlisin and Nick Althaus combined on 20 saves for the Yellowjackets (12-10-2, 5-7-1).
The same teams rematch at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Fanetti Community Center in Menomonie, Wisconsin, to close out the regular season.
