College women's basketball: UWS loses tournament finale

UWS tied the game in the second half but never took the lead.

A game-turning offensive run never arrived for Wisconsin-Superior in a 73-68 defeat to Berea on Sunday to complete the McWilliams Classic at Washington University in St. Louis.

UWS led 21-16 after a quarter and the game was up for grabs at halftime with Berea ahead 38-34, but UWS never led in the second half. The game was tied at 58 when Paige Servais hit two free throws with 7:25 to play, but Berea went on a 9-0 run. Kaelyn Christian connected on a trip with 13 seconds to play to cut the deficit to three, but Berea finished it out at the free-throw line.

Christian led UWS with 19 points and a team-best seven rebounds. Kaija Davies added 17 points and Servais 13.

Aaliyah Hampton racked up 30 points for the Mountaineers.

UWS (1-7) returns to the floor on Friday for their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opener at Mertz Mortorelli Gym against Bethany Lutheran.
