College men’s soccer: Eriksen, Yellowjackets score late to down Saints

Phillip Eriksen scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 76th minute, to lift Wisconsin-Superior to a 3-1 nonconference victory over St. Scholastica in men’s soccer Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, before 78 at NBC Spartan Sports Complex in Superior.

Nolan Friday of Duluth staked CSS to the early lead with his fifth goal of the season, scoring unassisted at 20:15, before UWS’ Karsten Kletti tied it with a tally at 30:19.

It stayed that way until Eriksen, a sophomore forward from Skjetten, Norway, scored at 75:23 on an assist by Evan Ridd and then added an insurance goal — his eighth of the season — at 83:53 on an assist from William Maanstroem.

Alex Paredes had four saves to lead the Yellowjackets (10-6) while Liam Lothian had four saves to lead the Saints (6-8-1).

CSS returns to MIAC action against Carleton at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Saints Field while UWS plays a UMAC game at 3:30 p.m. Friday against North Central at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
