A busy week of local stock car racing featured a pair of Gondik Law Speedway events during the Head of the Lakes Fair in Superior, the15th annual “Pure Excitement” WISSOTA Pure Stock feature Saturday at the ABC Raceway in Ashland; and a full WISSOTA division program on the final night of the South St. Louis County Fair in Proctor on Sunday.
James Vendela of South Range was a double winner last week in Pure Stocks during Superior’s annual Fair Races.
Vendela scored his first feature race checkered flag Tuesday in the 15-lap Pure Stocks feature. He then returned Friday to get his second checkered flag of the week.
Tuesday night also drew the largest number of WISSOTA Late Models thus far this season for a weekly show with 21 cars in attendance.
This included a visit from New Richmond’s Pat Doar and Mike Prochnow, and the return to competition of Darin Meierotto.

Doar won the 25-lap feature with Darrell Nelson finishing second.
Prochnow went on to finish in fourth place and Meierotto was eighth.
The mid-week venue also brought visitors Dave Mass, East Bethel, Minn., and Dexton Koch to the Super Stock ranks. Mass won the feature with Kevin Burdick and Koch rounding out the top three.
Other winners in Friday's races included Johnny Broking of Grand Rapids in Modifieds and Skeeter Estey of Kelly Lake beat out a field of 26 cars to top the Midwest Modifieds.
Gondik Law Speedway will hold its hall of fame night Friday with the Fastlane Northern Super Stocks Series. Also on the card will be a visit from the Northern Vintage Stock Cars.
ABC Raceway
Andrew Hanson of Iron River took the lead after a late-race restart, then held on for the final five laps to become the 13th different winner of the “Pure Excitement” WISSOTA Pure Stock feature at the ABC Raceway on Saturday.

Sixteen Pure Stocks came to compete for an enhanced purse during the 15th annual running of the special event for the entry-level division.
They were joined by 52 WISSOTA Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds and ABC Six-Cylinders for a full night of racing action in hot, humid conditions on a fast race track.
The fourth race of the five-night, five-track FastLane Motorsports Northland Super Stock Series will hit the ABC Raceway on Saturday.
The program is expected to draw upwards of 50 Super Stocks from across the region, racing for a shot at a $700 first-place check as well as the $1,300 Series championship payoff and other points fund and contingency awards.
Proctor Speedway
The South St. Louis County Fair in Proctor wrapped up with a full WISSOTA division program on hand.
