Wisconsin-Superior is picked to finish fourth in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference men’s basketball preseason coaches’ poll released Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021.

The conference will have a new regular-season champion after St. Scholastica left the league for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Northwestern, which downed St. Scholastica 74-61 for the UMAC tournament title last March, was a near-unanimous pick atop the poll as the Eagles earned 48 points and seven first-place votes. They were followed by Bethany Lutheran (43 points, two first-place votes), North Central and UWS (31).

The Yellowjackets return 13 players from last year’s sixth-place squad, including UMAC Second Team guards Eli Vogel and Mason Ackley, a former Superior Spartan. Vogel scored 16.5 points per game while Ackley added 10.8 ppg while shooting 48.5% from the field. Defensive team pick J’Vaun Walker is also back after averaging three steals per game as a freshman.

UWS plays an exhibition with Minnesota Duluth at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Romano Gym in Duluth. The UWS and UMD women play at 5:30 p.m.
