Wisconsin-Superior fell behind by double digits in the first quarter and went on to lose 79-60 to defending UMAC champion Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.
Abby Olson scored a game-high 25 points for the Vikings (2-0 overall, 2-0 UMAC), who had three others score in double figures while shooting 53.7% from the field as a team.
The Yellowjackets (2-2, 1-2) only hit 18 of 54 field goals (33.3%) and missed all 11 attempts from 3-point range.
Bryton Kukowski was the lone UWS player in double figures with 10 points.
St. Scholastica shot just 24.6% from the field in a 68-45 UMAC loss to Northwestern, spoiling the Saints’ home opener at Reif Gymnasium.
The Eagles (8-4, 2-1) used a 15-0 first-half run and a 44-14 scoring advantage in the paint to earn the easy win. Megan Roberts scored 20 of Northwestern’s 40 points in the first half and finished with 26 points on 11-for-13 shooting.
Liz Frase led the Saints (0-2, 0-2) with 10 points.
