The University of Wisconsin-Superior basketball teams had a rough go of it against the Bethany Lutheran Vikings Saturday, Feb. 22, in Mankato, Minnesota.

The Yellowjacket men still had hopes of sharing the UMAC regular-season title, but fell to third place with a 92-79 loss.

The UWS women then had their string of four straight UMAC regular-season championships snapped with a 71-48 loss.

Men’s hoops

Trenton Krueger and Cire Mayfield both scored 22 points to lead Bethany Lutheran (14-2 UMAC, 19-6 overall), which moved past UWS (13-3, 16-9) for second place in the final standings.

Vid Milenkovic led the Yellowjackets' with 17 points. Allen Anderson and Mac Reykdal both scored 14 points, Mason Ackley scored 13 points, along with a team-high six rebounds, and Eli Vogel finished with 10 points.

UWS is back at Bethany Lutheran at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 to open the UMAC tournament.

Women’s hoops

Hanna Geistfeld had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Abby Olson scored 16 as the Vikings spoiled the Yellowjackets’ chances for another UMAC title.

UWS (13-3, 17-8) got 11 points from Marissa Ruiz and nine from Ellie Leadstrom, but leading scorer Eva Reinertsen was limited to just six points on 2-of-6 shooting. She had a team-high five rebounds.

The Yellowjackets (17-8, 13-3) are the No. 2 seed in the UMAC tournament and will host Northwestern at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

The teams split their regular season contests, with the Yellowjackets defeating the Eagles by 27 points on Feb. 19.
