Andrew Klobucher’s layup at the buzzer gave the Northwestern High School boys basketball team a 67-66 win over Chetek-Weyerhaeuser on Friday, Feb. 14, in the NHS gym in Maple.

Klobucher finished with 17 points as the Tigers improved to 12-6 overall and 10-4 in the HON.

Cameron (12-6, 10-4) is in first place and Cumberland (12-6, 10-4) is tied for second with the Tigers.

Northwestern's Harrison Nelson and Jagar Stillson both scored 12 points and Jake Brill and Dayne Evanson both scored 10 points.

Samuel Grotberg led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Dakota Hermann was next with 15 points.

The Tigers play at Washburn on Monday, Feb. 17, and Barron on Thursday, Feb. 20. Both games are at 7:15 p.m.

Northwestern took a step closer to its first Heart O’ North Conference championship in 21 years with a 55-27 win over Chetek-Weyerhaeuser on Thursday, Feb. 13, in Chetek.

The Tigers, who last won a HON title during the 1998-99 season, improved to 17-3 overall and 13-1 in league play. Bloomer is in second place at 13-3.

Northwestern and Bloomer split during the regular season. The Blackhawks won 60-57 on Dec. 13 and the Tigers won 60-33 on Feb. 7. Both wins were on the road.

The Tigers have two games remaining. They host Barron (8-6) on Tuesday, Feb. 18, and play at Cameron (8-7) on Friday, Feb. 21. Both games begin at 7:15 p.m.

Bloomer (17-4) has one game remaining, at Ladysmith on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Tayva Plasch was the only Tiger to score in double figures with 10 points. Brooke Ogren and Kendall Sletten both had eight points, Karsyn Jones added seven, and Tieryn Plasch, Jayda Klobucher and Kennedy Nelson all had six.

Maggie Reisner led Chetek-Weyerhaeuser (3-17, 1-13) with 13 points.
