The Superior High School boys basketball team celebrated Senior Night with an 80-55 win over the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders on Friday, Feb. 14, in the SHS gym.
Joey Barker was the Spartans’ lone senior honored prior to the game. He then scored a game-high 21 points. Kaden Kimmes was right behind with 20 points as Superior improved to 10-10 with the nonconference win.
Andrew Weisser and Jacob Stolzenberg scored 13 and 12 points for the Crusaders (8-13).
Trailing 8-4, Superior went on a 16-3 run to open up a 20-11 lead. The run started with a basket by Lars Olson and ended with two straight baskets by Kimmes and two more by Ben Hunter.
Superior’s lead reached double figures (26-16) for the first time on a Draden Jensen basket, and the Spartans took a pair of 17-point leads, including 43-26 at the half on another Jensen basket just before the buzzer.
The closest the Crusaders would get the rest of the way was 14 points on a 3-pointer seconds into the second half.
A Barker basket gave the Spartans their largest lead of the game at 68-40.
The Crusaders cut the lead to 68-49, but a pair of 3-pointers by Shane Leask and a basket by Isaac Dimitrovich got Superior’s lead back up to 27 points at 80-53 with less than a minute remaining.
The Spartans have two games remaining: Ashland at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, and at Hudson at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.
