The University of Wisconsin-Superior women's basketball team limited Waldorf to single digits in the second and fourth quarters and held the Warriors to just 28% shooting in an 83-45 win in the final game of the Superior Shootout Holiday Classic Monday, Dec. 30, at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.

The Yellowjackets received at least six points apiece from seven different players while shooting 43.8% from the field.

Marissa Ruiz and Eva Reinertsen led the way with 14 points apiece and Pashia Scott added 12. Ruiz, who was 4-for-8 from 3-point range, also had three assists and three steals, and Reinertson had seven rebounds and a blocked shot.

The Yellowjackets (7-5) play next at Crown College at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8.

‘JACKET JOTTINGS: Finlandia defeated St. Scholatica 66-58 in the earlier game on Monday. Former Northwestern Tiger Katie Lundeen led the winners with 32 points, 15 rebounds and three assists. … Lundeen was the Superior Telegram Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018.

Men’s hoops

A big second half helped Edgewood College overcome Wisconsin-Superior's halftime lead and the Eagles downed the Yellowjackets 74-72 in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament on Monday in De Pere.

UWS (6-6), which led by six at the break, trailed by eight with 1:02 left in the game. But Allen Anderson made two free throws with 44 seconds left, Eli Vogel nailed a 3-pointer with 34 seconds left, and Anderson also hit a 3 with 14 seconds left to tie the game 72-72.

However, a UWS foul with four seconds left put Edgewood's Avery Lyons on the line. He hit both foul shots and Anderson's jumper at the buzzer was off.

Anderson led the 'Jackets with 23 points and Vid Milenkovic had 19 points and nine rebounds. Former Superior Spartan Mason Ackley had 18 points and nine boards.

UWS plays next at Crown College at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8.
