Sixteen points from Chloe Kintop and a strong second half led the Superior High School girls basketball team to a 43-31 win at Duluth East Tuesday, Feb. 5.

The Spartans, who trailed 18-13 at the half, outscored East 30-13 in the second half to win its third straight game and improve to 9-8.

“I thought East played very well defensively in the first half, but I felt our adjustments at halftime were the difference,” SHS coach Dave Kontny said. “Foul trouble early led to us not playing our game. We also got impatient offensively in the first half and that led to quick shots and when it’s not going in it can lead to trouble.

“In the second half we settled in, picked up the pressure defensively, controlled the glass with our rebounding, and made some nice runs which led to the win.”

Superior also got eight points from Niya Wilson and six points apiece from Kaileigh Miller and Lauren Raboin.

Macy Hermanson led East with 11 points.

The Spartans will take a three-game winning streak into their next game at Hayward at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9.

“Winning three straight is good, but now we have to prepare for Hayward, which has a really nice team,” Kontny said. “What I like about us now is we’re getting scoring from everyone and we have gotten some depth, which is allowing us to give our starters some rest when they need it. I love this team. They are smart, hard working, and playing for one another.”

Superior will then play at Eau Claire North at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12.
