The University of Wisconsin-Superior hockey and basketball teams went a combined 5-1 over the weekend.
The men’s hockey team swept a pair of non-conference opponents at Wessman Arena, the women’s hockey team split a series with Concordia (Wis.) at Mequon, Wis., and the men’s and women’s basketball teams swept a UMAC doubleheader from Crown College at home.
UWS snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Bethel Friday, Jan. 11, then made it two wins in a row with a 2-1 victory over Hamline Saturday, Jan. 12.
Martan Yelle, Pavel Mikhasenok and Artur Terchiyev scored for UWS on Friday, and Oscar Svensson picked up his first collegiate victory with 24 saves.
Adam Marty scored for Bethel (1-14-1) and Joe Sheppard finished with 31 saves.
Mikhasenok and Terchiyev also scored goals Saturday and Svensson made 46 saves to pick up his second straight win.
Austin Wisley scored for Hamline (2-13-1) and Sam Nelson finished with 26 saves.
The Yellowjackets (5-11-2) return to WIAC action next weekend, playing UW-Stout Friday, Jan. 25 in Menomonie, and at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, Jan. 26. Both games begin at 7 p.m.

The Yellowjackets lost 2-1 in overtime and won 4-2 in a non-conference series with Concordia (Wis.) Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11-12, in Mequon.
Jossa Danis scored a power-play goal 3:20 into overtime in the Falcons’ win on Friday, while four different players scored in Saturday’s win for the Yellowjackets.
UWS took a quick lead Friday when Kaleigh Martinson scored her 12th goals 53 seconds into the contest.
Concordia’s Ally Hull tied the game midway through the third period and goalie Christina Pattengale stopped the the final 26 UWS shots to pick up the win in goal.
Catherine Johnson played in goal both games for UWS, stopping 31 shots Friday and 29 Saturday.
Molly Shelton and Jenna Curtis gave UWS a 2-0 lead in the first period Saturday, Amber Heidenreich broke a 2-2 tie midway through the second period and Mandy Tomlinson closed the scoring with a power-play goal with 2:20 left in regulation.
llie Woodman and Kristen Kennedy scored for the Falcons (7-5-2), while Christina Pattengale turned away 24 shots.
UWS (7-10-1) plays at Gustavus Adolphus at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.
UWS then plays a home-and-home series with UW-Eau Claire this weekend, playing in Superior at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan, 18, and in Eau Claire at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19.

John Pioro of UWS sent the game into overtime when he hit a 3-point at the buzzer, then Montroy Scott scored the final of his game-high 33 points on a free throw with 10 seconds to play in overtime, lifting the UWS men to a 92-91 victory.
Mac Reykdal added 26 points for the Yellowjackets (3-13, 2-6 UMAC), who ended a five-game losing streak.
Micah Filer and Jared High each scored 31 points to lead North Central (4-11, 0-7).

Emily Carpenter and Hannah Norlin each scored 14 points to pace the Yellowjackets, who led 20-18 after one quarter before going on a 12-0 run in the second quarter and 21-2 in the second half.
Superior’s defense held North Central (8-6, 3-4 UMAC) to just four points in the second quarter and two in the third.
